ADVANCEMENT

When is the last time you turned your Scout Handbook in to the Advancement Chair to get your advancement recorded in Troop Master?  If the answer is: I don't know...  Then you should probably turn your Handbook into the Advancement Chair, Ms. Kelly, so they can get your Advancement Record updated and current...

A Little About Troop 413

Click here to read our Troop 413 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Troop 413 is chartered by the Honorable Fleet Reserve Association (FRA), Branch 93, of Lexington Park, Maryland. We have been chartered since 1968 with the Fleet Reserve Association.  Prior to 1968 we were Troop 416, Chartered by the Mattapany Rod and Gun Club, but due a Charter Lapse, once the charter was renewed, the National Capital Area Council (NCAC) assigned us a new Troop number "Troop 413". We are one of the oldest Troops in Maryland.

We meet every Tuesday evening from 6:30 - 8:00 PM, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Raley Hall in Lexington Park, MD just off of Route 235 South.  Our Scoutmaster Staff and Troop Committee provide our Scout Youth Leadership with a "leadership toolbox" full of tools and resources to successfully plan, implement, and develop our Troop activities and campouts that we conduct one weekend every month throughout the year.  That's right; Troop 413 provides a 12 month program for our Scouts.  Patrol Camping is also highly encouraged throughout the year, to aid in the development of Patrol Leadership, Pride, and Spirit!

We are an active and dynamic Scout-run/led Troop, where the Scoutmasters provide EDGE (Explain, Demonstrate, Guide, Enable) all the while providing continuous guidance and oversight while the Scouts learn leadership skills by taking responsibility for the day-to-day leadership and running of the Troop.  So if you are looking for a Boy Scout Troop that is Boy Run/Led with EDGE; want to experience outdoor adventures that our Scouting program offers; and want to learn to develop and hone your Character and Leadership skills that all leaders possess; Troop 413 is probably the right place for you!

Quite honestly, you should know that the program of Scouting, entails a bit of work on your part...You'll need to learn some basic life skills like; tying knots and lashings, cooking and camping, and some basic first aid skills, are among some of the skills you will need to master.  So, with all of your hard work and dedication you will be rewarded with; Character Development, Advancement, Leadership, Citizenship, Pride of being a part of something Greater than self, Self- Reliance and Discipline, and Emotional/Moral/Physical Fitness.  However, more than the learning you will receive by being a part of the Boy Scouts of America, it is just plain old FUN to do Scouting!

So how do I become a Boy Scout and a part of the Troop 413 Scouting Family?  The answer is quite simple; you must meet certain qualifications prior to becoming a Boy Scout...  You must have achieved one of the following qualifications in order to be considered for membership in the Boy Scouts of America and Troop 413;  Be 11 years old, or, have completed the fifth grade, or, have earned the Arrow of Light Award.  That's it!  Simple things can lead you to a vast array of life experiences and leadership that you wouldn't necessarily achieve in other organizations.

A little information about our Youth and Adult Leadership...  We have trained and active Adult Volunteer Scouter's.  100% of our Scoutmaster Staff have been trained for their leadership positions, as well as, 100% of our Committee Members are trained in their respective positions. A lot of our Adult Leadership is also involved in other leadership aspects within the Western Shore District as well as the Western Shore Order of the Arrow Chapter...  To top that, and more importantly, ALL of our Youth Leadership have been through Troop Leadership Training, and Advanced Junior Leader Training or Junior Leadership Workshop seminars. So what are you waiting for...? Let your adventure begin, by checking us out! Drop in anytime during one of our Troop meetings so you can see first hand what Troop 413 and Scouting is really all about!  If you would like more information about us, please contact the Scoutmaster or Committee Chair via email under the 'Contact Us' link to the left.

Webelos:  The Scouts of Troop 413 are excited with anticipation to have you join our AWESOME Troop!  If you are planning to cross over to the Troop, or just want to join our Scouting adventure, please have your Parents, Cubmaster, or your Den Leader(s) contact our Scoutmaster or Committee Chair.  We like to 'Be Prepared' and have as much Troop representation as we can at your cross-over ceremony in order to properly receive you!  All of the Scouts of Troop 413 bid you well in your quest to seek the Arrow of Light Award...

Scoutmaster Minute
Keys:

Imagine a man walking down a corridor.

At intervals along the floor of the corridor are numerous keys. The man stops to pick up some of the keys and leaves others.  Maybe he cannot hold all of the keys in his hands.  Perhaps he is lazy and does not choose to pick up a particular key.
